Chắc hẳn nhiều bạn đã từng nghe tới cụm từ Idioms. Có thể bạn sẽ chưa mường tượng được Idioms là như thế nào và cách sử dụng nó ra sao? Có tác dụng gì trong giao tiếp. Idioms là gì?
Idiom là những câu/cụm từ được người bản xứ sử dụng thường xuyên khi giao tiếp hằng ngày. Bạn đang có ý định thi IELTS hoặc muốn nâng cao khả năng giao tiếp bằng tiếng Anh thì nhất định không thể bỏ qua việc sử dụng các Idioms.
IDIOMS là các cụm từ mà ý nghĩa của nó – không chỉ đơn thuần là nghĩa đen của các từ ghép lại – mà thường mang nghĩa bóng.
Ví dụ: The Math test was a piece of cake for John.
→ Đối với John bài kiểm tra toán đó là quá dễ.
Ưu điểm của việc sử dụng Idioms
Khi bạn sử dụng thành ngữ trong giao tiếp, ngôn từ của bạn sẽ trở nên tự nhiên hơn, đa dạng hơn, sinh động hơn và “thật” hơn. Lời ăn tiếng nói của bạn dễ dàng gây ấn tượng cho người đối diện. Thay vì nói “I agree” thì rõ ràng sử dụng “I see what you mean” nghe hay hơn rất nhiều.
Nếu bạn sử dụng thành thạo các thành ngữ này, mọi người sẽ trầm trồ ngưỡng mộ vì tiếng Anh của bạn quá lưu loát và tự nhiên như người bản xứ đó 🙂
Bên cạnh đó cũng có một vài khó khăn:
Tốn nhiều thời gian để nhớ được các thành ngữ. Trong tiếng Anh có khoảng hơn 1000 thành ngữ nên để có thể ghi nhớ chúng là cả một vấn đề.
Giả sử bạn có thể thuộc lòng tất cả các thành ngữ trong thời gian ngắn thì hiểu được chúng cũng chẳng phải chuyện đơn giản. Hiểu ở đây là sử dụng với đúng đối tượng, đúng tình huống, ngữ cảnh và thời điểm. Vì thế cần có thời gian dài để học cách áp dụng chúng một cách chính xác nhất.
Nhưng đừng vội nản nhé!
Đó là những thử thách mà bất kỳ ai muốn thành công đều phải vượt qua.
Hãy luôn nhớ rằng: “Trên mảnh đất của sự thành công không có dấu chân của kẻ lười biếng.” Mình dám chắc rằng nếu bạn kiên trì, bền bỉ thì mọi nỗ lực của bạn sẽ được đền bù một cách xứng đáng.
